DSL International Tour

DSLegacy: a concept that brings together on stage for the first time Dire Straits’ Phil Palmer, Alan Clark, Mel Collins, Danny Cummings and Steve Ferrone, John Giblin, Marco Caviglia and Primiano DiBiase, on a long awaited International Tour that starts in May 2016.

Stepping into the band’s line up is Dire Straits’ keyboard player Alan Clark. Alan joined Dire Straits in1980 and played a big part in their transition into one of the biggest bands in the world, playing on every record they made thereafter: Love over Gold, Twisting by the Pool, Alchemy, Brothers in Arms, On Every Street and On the Night.

We’re very happy to announce that Steve Ferrone will be with us again. Steve is widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers in the world, having played with (to name but a few) Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Duran Duran, while also managing to be one of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers for the past 22years.

And he’s joined by guitarist and musical director Phil Palmer and percussionist/vocalist Danny Cummings, both of who played in 91/92 with DireStraits on their On Every Street tour and album. Also in the lineup is the highly regarded sax player Mel Collins who was a member of Dire Straits from 1983 until 1985 and played on the famous Alchemy live album and the Twisting by the Pool EP.

While Dire Straits’ base man John Illsley is making his solo album, we are very lucky to be able to replace him on this tour with the ace bass player John Giblin who has worked with “Simple Minds”, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel and Claudio Baglioni and many others.

The two Italians joining the band are guitarist/vocalist Marco Caviglia, and keyboard man Primiano Di Biase.

And the name of the band has changed: we’re back in a new guise, transformed from “DSLegend” to “DSLegacy”. Why “Legacy”? It’s a personal thing; these legendary musicians know that the legacy of Dire Straits lies in their hands, and in what better hands could that legacy lie than of those who made the records the band is famous for? And because DSLegacy consists almost entirely of original Dire Straits members, it steps away from clichés like “tribute” or “covers” band and becomes an entity in its own right, an ongoing extension of the original band. The guys’ “mission” on this tour is to have a lot of fun (!) while bringing the hugely popular songs of Dire Straits – Romeo and Juliet, Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing, Tunnel of Love, Walk of life and some of the lesser known niche tracks like When it comes to You, You and Your Friend, On Every Street and “Wild West End” – to the fans of the band who have been starved of them since the band split up in 1992, played by members of one of the biggest bands ever: Dire Straits.
